Privacy Policy
CutKnot is a native macOS application that processes your project files locally on your Mac. We designed CutKnot with privacy as a default — your media, sessions, and creative work do not leave your computer unless you choose to share them.
This policy explains what limited information we collect, what we do with it, and the rights you have over your data.
1.Local-First Processing
CutKnot runs entirely on your Mac. When you import a Final Cut Pro project or convert a session to Pro Tools, Logic, or Reaper, all processing happens locally.
We do not upload, copy, or transmit your project files, audio, video, or session data to any server, cloud service, or third party.
Your creative work stays on your computer. You are responsible for backing up your original files.
2.Information We Collect
We collect the minimum information needed to provide the service and respond to support requests:
- Purchase information: when you buy a license, our payment processor handles your name, email, billing country, and payment method. CutKnot itself never sees your card number or full billing details.
- License activation: your license key is associated with a hardware ID derived from your Mac to enforce the per-machine activation limit. The hardware ID is a hashed, non-reversible identifier that does not reveal your serial number or system details.
- Update checks: the app may contact our update server to check for new versions. These requests include only the current app version and operating system version, no personal data.
- Crash reports (optional): if you opt in, anonymous crash reports may be sent to help us diagnose bugs. Reports do not include the contents of your project files.
3.What We Do Not Collect
CutKnot does not collect, store, or transmit:
- your audio, video, or other media files;
- the contents of your Final Cut Pro projects or DAW sessions;
- project names, track names, clip metadata, markers, or session structure;
- your usage patterns inside the app (we do not track which features you click);
- your IP address beyond what is needed for license validation and update checks.
4.Cookies and Website Tracking
Our website may use minimal first-party cookies for language preference (so you don't have to re-select your language each visit) and for protecting against abuse.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers, behavioral profiling cookies, or cross-site identifiers.
If we add analytics in the future, we will use a privacy-respecting solution that does not transmit personal data and will update this policy accordingly.
5.Third-Party Services We Use
We use a small number of third-party services strictly to operate the business:
- Payment processor: handles checkout, billing, refunds, and stores your payment information under their own privacy policy and PCI-compliant infrastructure.
- Email delivery: sends you license keys, receipts, and (if you ask) product update emails. We do not sell or share your email address.
- Hosting and CDN: serves the website and software downloads. Standard server logs (IP, user agent, request URL, timestamp) are kept for short periods to debug issues and prevent abuse.
We rely on third-party providers for payments and licensing, website delivery, and e-mail communication. They process only the minimum data required for their function and are bound by their own privacy terms.
6.Your Rights
You have the right to:
- request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date;
- ask us to delete your account and associated data, subject to legal retention requirements (for example, invoices we are required to keep for tax purposes);
- opt out of any optional communications at any time;
- disable optional features like crash reports from within the app.
To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below. We will respond within a reasonable time frame, typically within 30 days.
7.Data Retention
We keep purchase records and license information for as long as needed to support your license and meet legal obligations.
Server logs are kept for a short period and then deleted or aggregated into non-personal statistics.
If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove personal information from active systems, except where retention is required by law.
8.Security
We follow reasonable industry practices to protect the limited personal data we collect, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted internal access, and minimal data retention.
No system can be perfectly secure. If a security incident affects your data, we will notify you and take corrective action as required by applicable law.
9.Children's Privacy
CutKnot is a professional audio post-production tool intended for use by adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 16.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
10.International Users
CutKnot is operated by an independent developer and relies on third-party providers for payments and licensing, website delivery, and e-mail communication that may process limited personal data in countries other than yours. By using the service, you understand that the data described in this policy may be processed in those jurisdictions.
We aim to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD), PIPEDA (Canada), and equivalent privacy frameworks where applicable.
11.Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when we change how we handle data. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
If we make material changes (for example, adding analytics or expanding data collection), we will notify you through the app or by email when possible.
